COACHING
I coach leaders in all sectors and levels, from executives to front-line managers in health care, service, technology, government, manufacturing, academic and other settings. The cadence of coaching sessions and specific goals are unique to the needs and desires of clients, but always bear a relationship to the four areas of my mission stated on the home page of this website. In addition to regular sessions, and depending on the request, I design and conduct more complex coaching approaches, such as customized 360-degree assessments contracted by individuals or organizations. These projects involve interviews (sometimes extensive), written reports, detailed personal development planning and follow-up coaching.
FACILITATION
Facilitation is the art of helping multiple individuals address needs, work through dilemmas and conflicts while building more trusting, open relationships. Along with individual coaching, I facilitate groups through any number of custom designed venues, such as small group workshops or work retreats, volunteer support groups, or partnership development events. These are all venues that I design on behalf of the client with their engagement and collaboration. Effective facilitation requires clear goals, flexible methods, and creation of an open environment where people feel free to take risks but also adhere to ground rules. One of the benefits of facilitated engagements is the focus on creative ideas, support for the inclusion and dignity of all participants, both fun and serious accomplishment.
CONSULTING
I work with leaders to design and implement organization development (OD) projects; for example, internal workplace “climate” assessments focused on why a team is experiencing low morale. My approach as an OD practitioner is participative and open, with the goal of both sharing an objective view and facilitating potential action steps everyone can take toward positive change.
I also consult privately with leaders who need a sounding board for evaluating structural, personnel or culture changes that demand strategic thinking and planning. While coaching most often focuses on personal growth, consulting focuses on helping leaders with deeper or broader organizational initiatives. Many projects combine both coaching and consulting.
TRAINING
I design and conduct sessions from smaller team trainings on effective management skills to events involving hundreds of people. Topics range from managing one’s own temperament and building better coaching skills to leading change and the role of leaders in creating open, trust-based, high-performance workplaces. Most of my sessions include principles of reflective leadership training, such as self-confrontation, addressing difficult or “undiscussable” issues, effectively giving and receiving feedback, partnership development, overcoming past conditioning, and related areas.
STAND-ALONE PRESENTATIONS
I design and conduct stand-alone presentations, including key notes or other speeches for large groups as part of in-house conferences or external association events. Topics I cover include: “Discussing Undiscussables,” “Fear, Trust and Dignity in the Workplace, “The Courageous Messenger,” “How to Reinvent Yourself” and other topics customized to a particular organization’s needs
TEAM TRUST SURVEY
This is a tool I created to help leaders and team members work on issues of team trust, no matter where they are on their journey. Using the survey is a great way to improve openness, collaboration and group responsibility.
